These experiences help students understand the world around them, develop interpersonal skills, distinguish interests from hobbies, and contribute to informed college major and career decisions. YWAM - Youth With A Mission is a global movement of Christians from many cultures, age groups, and Christian traditions, dedicated to serving Jesus throughout the world. Also known as YWAM (pronounced "Why-wham"), we unite in a common purpose to know God and to make Him known. YWAM is an excellent organization for summer programs that are conducted domestically and overseas. This organization should also be considered if your graduating senior wants to take a "gap" year in order to obtain valuable experience prior to college. Go to ywam.org
Worldview Academy - Worldview Academy is a non-denominational organization dedicated to helping Christians to think and to live in accord with a biblical worldview so that they will serve Christ and lead the culture. Go to http://www.worldview.org
The National Student Leadership Conference - (NSLC) conducts summer leadership programs at colleges and universities across the United States.  At this summer program you will join your high-achieving peers from throughout the nation to gain the real-world leadership experiences and skills you need to succeed in college and in your future career. Programs include: Intensive Acting Training, Biotechnology, Business and Entrepreneurship, Culinary Arts and Entrepreneurship, Education and the classroom, Engineering, Forensic Science, Intelligence and National Security, International Diplomacy, Journalism, Film and Media Arts, Law and Advocacy, Medicine and Health Care, Political Action and Public Policy, Psychology and Neuroscience, Sports Management. Global Leadership Adventures - (“GLA”) presents a fresh, new approach to service-learning abroad for intellectually-curious and socially-oriented teenagers. Programs are offered in Africa, Asia, and Latin America. Participants explore historic and natural sites in different countries while they learn the local language and history, and serve the community through meaningful volunteer efforts. GLA’s goal is to provide life-changing experiences that will cultivate a global perspective and open-mindedness in students that will ultimately inspire them to become great leaders and global thinkers and seek positive change in their own communities. GLA is a division of Terra Education (“Terra”), a leader in the field of international service-learning. Terra also operates Discover Corps, one to two week volunteer vacations for adults and families, in collaboration with the National Peace Corps Association.
